This track is based on a man and a woman living together in a house. He obsessively locks the house because he fears perceives threats from the outside, and values his possessions highly. I’m singing from her perspective - she’s frightened by being trapped inside for fear of burning - emotionally as well as physically. He’s put up emotional walls. He also in some way represents the mentality that encouraged many people in the UK to vote for Brexit, which was largely won on a campaign of racism and xenophobia - this idea of “securing our borders” and fearing migrants. The end of the song moves more towards questioning this mentality of “well this has to go ahead now.”
lyrics
What happens when we burn from the inside?
What happens when we burn inside?
You know your time is running out
It burst and now its pouring out
He locks all of the doors and hides all the keys
Incase outsiders come to take what they please
He locks all of the doors, hides all of the keys
He thinks outsiders will come
To take what they please
Home sweet home is not the safest
Place to be space to breathe face to see
Because he’s all walls
Evading emotion
Talk about threatening talk about threats to me
Home sweet home’s become a prison
Lets make longer tables rather than building up
More walls
What if we’re trapped in here
Talked our way into this
Why can’t we talk our way out?
So they say
So it goes
So it is
If we talked our way in to this
Why can’t we talk our way out
If we can talk our way into it
Why can’t we talk our way out
Exceptional punk music! I love sloppy punk, but this manages to be clean without without losing any energy at all (maybe even getting more of it in the process!). Can't recommend it enough and show them to everyone I know zacharypinkham
